Happy Thursday I hope that everyone is having a good week! The weather has been nicer! I took the kids outside for class today. Well two classes. My carpal tunnel is acting up but other than that this week was pretty good! Let me get in to the reason we here with out further ado! So in the last couple of months I have had to deal with the dentist and honestly this is why people don’t like dentists!
I have never really had a fear of the dentist. I will say that I went to the same dentist from when I had teeth until I moved to Texas. So finding a dentist here has been a problem. I have been to a few different ones. The one I went to the longest was kinda sketch. I showed up one day and the dentist was a different person. Also the one that sparked a very strange question about a latex allergy but that is a story for another time! haha So the next time I showed up to this dentist they were closed. Like boarded up closed! I don’t know what was going on there!
So I am going to be honest, I don’t remember the last time I had been to the dentist. After that drama I just kept putting it off. Again, it wasn’t fear, it was just all that damn paperwork out fill out then going through all the information. It was just a pain. Well the sketchy dentist had done a filling that was sub par. That thing hurt for a long time after and they kept telling me it was part of the process. It felt like it was sticking out of my tooth too far. It ended up falling out and it turned into a much larger cavity than it was to start with. Well I finally forced myself to find a dentist because that tooth was really starting to bother me. It would hurt when a cold wind would blow or if I drank something too cold. I was like yup… we have a problem! So, I picked a dentist near me and set an appointment fro February 24th well, when I got there there was judgment. I felt judged the entire time. I mean I get it. I should have gone to the dentist sooner but I didn’t! And talking to me like I am stupid is not helping! This is why people don’t like the dentist! I was asked by 4 different people when the last time I had been to the dentist was. Anyway come to find out the tooth that was bothering me needed a root canal. They did it that day and they put a temporary crown on and set an appointment to put the permanent crown for April 12th. All seemed fine until….
About 5 and a half weeks later my tooth started hurting… BAD! Like I couldn’t even close my mouth. Like no way could I eat on that side and OMG it hurt so bad! I called the dentist office. No one answered so I left a voicemail detailing what my problem was, my name and my phone number. No one called me back. I was on my planning period so I called back 2 other times trying to catch someone. When the woman finally calls me back I was getting my students settled so she leaves a voicemail and says “I see that you called… multiple times. Our office is closed from 1:30 to 2:30 for lunch everyday. Give us a call back.” I was frustrated but I called back and a different woman answered. I told her in detail again what was happening. You know the fact that I cant even close my mouth without the pain and that I had an appointment for the 12th. She said she could get me in the next day at 1:30. I said “I am a teacher I can’t really just leave in the middle of the day.” She said “ok Monday at 2:30 or Wednesday at 10:30?” I am sorry ma’am what part of I can’t leave in the middle of the day!?!? I finally told her “so If I can’t leave work in the middle of the day I have to wait until the 12th?” She said “these are the appointments I have.” So I took off the next day to get my tooth taken care of!
I show up there and they take me back and the lady starts looking at my tooth. She seemed surprised that I said it hurt. Like that is the whole reason I am here! She asked were you having a hard time keeping the area clean? I was like I didn’t think so but you are the one looking in my mouth. Then she pulls the temp out and I had to ask if she was putting another temp or just putting the permanent one. I tell you it was like none of us were on the same page! So she starts taking it out and it hurt she can see I’m wincing. so we wait for the dentist to come in and while we wait I know I am bleeding because she keeps putting gauze in my mouth. So the dentist comes in and asked how I was doing. I told her the reason I called is because I was in so much pain! She leans me back to take a look and she asks if I was brushing and flossing because my gums are super inflamed. I was like well yeah and now that you mention it the last week or so every time I brush my teeth my gums were bleeding. They put the permanent in and the Dentist leaves so that the hygienist can finish. Then the Dentist walk in and says (this is word for word what she says!) “Well under further inspection it appears it wasn’t a hygiene issue but you seem to be allergic to the material we made the temporary crown out of.” Again! This judgement is why people hate dentists. I mean heaven forbid they think that perhaps there was an issue, no they went straight to I don’t know how to brush my teeth! So we finish letting the glue dry or whatever and then they have me sign a paper saying that I approved where they put my crown. She was like “ok well you’re all done you have any questions?” I was like yeah! A whole slew of them but let’s start with! “What are we doing about this pain?” her response was if the pain doesn’t go away in a week call back. Then she started walking me out! I told her and the receptionist, “So I had an appointment to get this done next Saturday did y’all cancel it… or?” Both of them seemed so shocked by this information. They canceled my appointment and I went on my way. I am a week out and it feel back to normal but I think I am in the market for a new dentist.
Am I over reacting? I mean no one was really friendly, I felt like I was a bother. No one seemed to be on the same page. And to top it off they were not flexible with hours. I need more options than 1:30, 2:30 or 10! So I am on a quest for a new dentist. If you have one you love let me know! Y’all have a great rest of your week!!!
