Happy Sunday! I am so sorry I haven’t written a blog in so long! I know it’s been a month! The school year got started and even though I am doing better about not working all the time I am still super busy! School is hectic, I am taking time to have a life!
So one of my goals for this school year was one night a week nothing work related! I decided in order for that evening to count as a work free evening I have to leave work by 5. We get off work at 4:35 so that gives me some time to metotiar and then mosey to my room and pack up my stuff! I have done it at least once every week since school started! (I mean that is only 3 weeks but I am super proud of myself!) It is definitely helping already and it isn’t even crunch time yet.
My classroom procedures are going well. I am liking my doorbell method! The students are a lively bunch this year. I really haven’t had too many issues yet in my classroom. However, they are all about talking about fights. It is going to be a long year! This group is going to come with a new set of challenges that I am a little worried about! But we will cross that bridge when we get there!
I know this summer I said I was trying to use some washi tape before I bought more. well… an addict is an addict… I happened to go in to hobby lobby (for something else actually) and I stumbled upon some washi tape on clearance. I couldn’t resist! I bought 5 tall bottles and a short bottle! What am I going to do with all this washi tape you ask… I don’t know either but I have FOMO (fear of missing out) when it comes to washi tape. Like I am going to need a particular design that I had seen and I never bought…
So last weekend we went out to the lake for the holiday. My friend Liz has a house on the lake and she graciously invited me to spend the weekend out there! It was a very relaxing time. I had some minor congestion that I was battling but it was still nice to get away. Reminds me a little bit of home. I mean it was still grossly hot and humid but its closer to home than the city! When we got out there Liz and I sat down to make a list of things we needed while we were out there… because if you know me… you know… lists! Haha well We got in the car and drove away and I realized left the list on the counter! While we were driving there I was attacked but some ants Liz had in her car! We got there and I had the pressure of trying to remember what all was on our list that I left on the counter! Well when we left we had a very interesting cashier! He was an older gentleman and there was only one person in line when we walked up. That should have been our clue! He was commenting on all the clothes she was buying and judging her purchases. When he finally finished, he looked at the receipt and said “Wow you don’t even have that many bags and you spent a lot!” the poor lady apologized! She was like “I mean I did get a lot of clothes!” haha she walked off in shame and it was our turn. I realized that my driver’s license wasn’t in my wallet so I handed Liz my 12 pack of beer and some cash so that she could pay for it for me because I knew he would card me. So as he is scanning two 12 packs and a bottle of wine he looks at Liz and says “whoa you’re gonna get drunk!” She looked at him kinda taken back and before she could respond he said “nah never mind you don’t do that anymore” She looked even more offended that he was implying she was too old to drink! One of the things on our list was an light bulb. We had taken the one that was burned out so that we could match it bevuase it looked like a funny size. So Liz was carrying the lightbulb around. Well she told him “can you put that lightbulb (the new one in the box) with the eggs, so it doesn’t get squished and break?” then he looked at her and told her “are you just gonna carry that one around forever or can I throw it away?” she informed him that she was going to keep it incase the one she bought didn’t work. Well while all this was going on he filled up all the bags on the little bag turn thing. He tells her “come on what are you doing here” and he waved his hand over the bags. Well she pulls the cart from me so it would be closer, and I guess happened to call me babe or something along those lines because he said “you have a baby in there!?!?!” She finished her transaction and I started on mine. I had a little personal sized watermelon and he said “why are get such a small watermelon”. I told him “because that is all the watermelon we need.” He then proceeded to tell us that for 70 more cents we could just get a whole a watermelon. I told him I couldn’t even guarantee we were gonna eat this one why would I take a full one!?!? He told me at least three different times that I should spend 70 more cents and go head and get a full-sized watermelon because what I don’t eat I could put out in the garden to attract butterflies. “BUT MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE SOME RED ON IT! THEY LIKE THE RED” we paid for our stuff and left. Quickly! Haha We laughed about his invasive strangeness all weekend! The watermelon… he just couldn’t grasp that I didn’t want or need a full-sized watermelon!
Well it is getting late and some of us have to get up early and go to work in the morning! Haha Hopefully I will have some funny stories for you from my classroom soon! I hope that everyone has a great week!
