Good evening! On a side note… how do you greet someone at night? Good night is more of a farewell. But do you say good evening even at 10 at night? Man… English is hard! Anyway… the reason for the post tonight is I was setting up my bullet journal for the upcoming school year. I am really bad about not finishing a journal. Sometimes I just feel I need to start fresh but I was really good about just blocking off a section and starting fresh toward the back. I feel pretty good about it. And I love my pink pineapple journal so I wanted to use it as much as possible!
I found a quote that sort of made me think. It said “every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story” and I thought “self, you could be that caring adult. Are you always that caring adult?”. I put this as my cover page so that I see it every day. Sometimes I need the reminder that some of my students need a caring adult in their life. Sometimes I forget how fortunate my upbringing was. I forget that I had caring and loving parents at home and some of my students don’t. So it will be a good reminder to make sure that I am being that caring adult for my students.
Another one that I found that I think will help me to stay grounded this school year is “being grateful means appreciating who and what you have today”. I like this reminder to be grateful for the things that are in my life now. It is a reminder to not dwell in the things I don’t have. I also left room on the page so that I could write things that I am grateful for as I realize I am grateful for them!
The next quote is a quote that I have heard in different variations but just about any pastor I have ever had has said “God answers prayer 3 ways: 1) yes 2) no 3) wait” another way I have heard it that I like also “just because God doesn’t answer a prayer the way we want him to doesn’t mean he didn’t answer it” I have the first one as the header of my prayer log. I tend to get so impatient when I pray. So sometimes I need the reminder that sometimes his answer is to wait, or it is simply no!
The last thing that I added to this journal is a few goals that I have for this school year. I separated my goals in to two different sections, work goals and personal goals. One of my work goals is for me to only worry about what the kids know, NOT test scores! I feel that there is so much more to my students than the scores. When I am focused on making sure the kids know and understand the content and the way the world works, they become better humans. That is what we are trying to do right? Make decent humans? I am really going to need help with my personal goal. My goal is for one night a week to do nothing work related! Nothing! I know it will be tough, but I think with friends like y’all… I can achieve it! So if I call you on a Friday night and ask for a week free zone… I clearly haven’t achieved it yet that week! Haha
What are some quotes that you use to get motivated for a new school year? Or you nonteachers, quotes that just motivate you in life? What are some goals that you have for this school year? Or again nonteachers, for the rest of 2019?
