Hey! How is it going? I hope that everyone is doing well! Things are going pretty well here! This week was sort of a hectic week. The kids are super ready to be done and to be honest… so are most of the adults! Haha We started secret Santa this week. It is always a lot of fun. So far I have received some awesome socks with the abominable snowman, a whole lot of chocolates, and some pretty awesome clickey pens that have a lot of different colors! They are cool!
So I am sure that you are thinking “what does the title have to do with this blog?”. Well let me tell you… So like I said the kids are getting fidgety. Ok so earlier in the week there was an incident where a student pulled a chair out as another student was getting ready to sit down. He hit his back on the chair and seemed pretty hurt. We ended up calling his parents and the paramedics. So for those of you that don’t know we have a lot of parents that don’t speak English. I was asked to help translate. I was translating between the parents and the principal. My Spanish is ok, I am not as fluent as people give me credit for. I know how to say things like “your child is failing math” “your child is disrespectful” “your child isn’t doing homework” “your child needs tutoring” “your child is distracting the other students”… you get the gist… those are the kind of phrases that I use regularly. So this day I was translating for the parents and the principal. When the firefighters got there and started their assessments of the student one of them was able to speak Spanish. I was standing there listening there when the principal called me over she told me “Gute! (that’s what they call me at work) What is going on?! You are supposed to be translating!” haha sometimes I forget when I can understand that there are different languages going on! Haha so I translated for the principal and by then the paramedics from the ambulance arrived. None of them spoke Spanish so I had to start translating. I had never had to use words like bruise, sore, ibuprofen, blood pressure, x-rays. Basically they were trying to say that this kid was going to probably going to be fine but he was going to be sore and bruised. They should take him to the ER to get some X-Rays. I had to google how to say “x-rays” thank goodness the parents were super understanding about my lack of medical terminology. I went home and called my mom and found out that x ray is “el rayo x” I was like really!?!? It was that easy? And ibuprofen is just ibuprofeno haha it was a learning experience for sure! Haha
Well I should get back to working on the yearbook. I am a little behind where I usually am by now. Any one wanna help? Haha Everyone have a great week!
