Family Reunions!

Happy Sunday! I hope that everyone had a good weekend! Last week has been a short work for me because I was off on Monday and I had to take off half the day on Friday for dental emergency! The reason I was off Monday is because I went on a secrete mission to surprise my dad! It was such a good time! I have a great Aunt that was celebrating her 75th birthday and her 50th wedding anniversary. They were having a shindig and my dad, the oldest of the group, decided that it had been too long since all of the cousins had seen each other. So he planned a cousins reunion with all of his first cousins and then invited all of us, which would be the kids of the first cousins.

My dad had been calling everyone to talk to them personally about getting together in way that allowed us to see each other but not interfere with festivities of the weekend. I knew it was a matter of time until my dad called to ask me if there was anyway that I could make it.

Just some back information. I live in the DFW area and my parents live in North Western New Mexico. The airport situation in NM is crazy. When I fly in to NM I either fly in to Albuquerque and that is a three hour drive from where my parents live or I have to fly in to Durango CO and that is like a 45 minuteish drive. There is no easy way to get to where my parents live. The above festivities were happening in a town called Gallup, which also would require me to fly in to Albuquerque or somewhere else.

My brother and sister-in-law called me and told me that they found a CHEAP flight from DFW to PHX. They said if I wanted to fly in to Phoenix I could ride with them to Gallup for the weekend. Great plan! I bought the ticket that day and boom a secrete was born! haha We decided that I wouldn’t tell my Dad yes that I was going, just that I would see if I could figure out my life. My Dad is really good about not guilt tripping you in to things. He asks, he tells you how he feels then he lets you just do your thing! So when he called later that day I told him I would see what I could do, that if I could get a dog sitter, if work was chill, if school was chill… you know… We will see.

I am not very good at keeping secrets I wanted to tell him! haha I did tell my mom because I needed someone to talk him off the ledge of buying me a ticket randomly! The month was for sure longer for her than it was for me. My dad and I don’t talk on the phone often. I mean we usually only call each other if we have a specific question. Other wise we get all our information about each other from my mom! haha

So I flew in to Phoenix and we drove the 4 hours to Gallop. When we got to my cousins house where everyone was chatting and chilling my brother and Keeley got down and went and said hellos. They told my dad that they brought him something and when he rounded the truck, there I was! He cried, we knew he would! It was such a good time! I got to see cousins I hadn’t seen in YEARS! like upwards of 20 years. If I am counting right my dad has about 21 first cousins. I love seeing all of them together because they grew up so close that they have some pretty awesome stories!

While we were in Gallup we stayed at a hotel called El Rancho. (That is a clickable link! check it out!) They have rooms hotel rooms that are themed and then they have a motel that is very route 66 themed. It is pretty cool. There was also a cool elevator that you opened the door and the gate and you could see the floors go by! It was pretty cool! They say it is haunted. There was a ghost adventure episode about it. I have stayed in this hotel a couple times but I haven’t seen a ghost! haha

I thought I got more of a video but this was from inside the elevator! You could see the floors go by! Over all it was a good time! I am so grateful that Gav and Kee let me tag along! I was so nice to see everyone! We need to plan to do this more often!

Well I should probably go get some stuff done so that this week runs smoothly! I hope everyone has a great week! And come back later in the week for a blog about online dating! It is almost finished !
