Mental Health Day

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone had a great week! I had a couple rough days but I took today off because it was national grilled cheese day! Yes, you read that correctly! I took it off because it was national grilled cheese day! I take the day every year! I don’t do anything I don’t want to! Haha like today, I read about half a book, I ate 2 grilled cheese sandwiches, I bought a comforter for my spare bedroom and I wrote this blog! I do listen to audio books when I am in the car so some of the book I read today was because I was driving from one end of the world to the other! This week was testing and the kids seemed to really be at the end of their ropes! Don’t worry so am I! haha

Testing was rough and it was only day one of state testing! We still have another one to go (8th grade has 3 more days!) I had a kid that I just couldn’t get to move! She was on question 4 after an hour and a half. After lunch she stared at one question for what seemed about an hour. Then that child had the audacity to ask me “when do we get out of here?” GIIIIIRLLLLL! You aren’t going anywhere until you are done!!! Then, I had another one that just didn’t care. She kept trying to sleep or doodle. I honestly believe a some point she just started clicking through answers to finish. The state (I think it is the state I know the district for sure!) has some pretty intense rules for no cell phones. These kids are addicted and even if they are turned off, they have such a hard time turning them in. I put them in a bucket, and I give them back at the end of testing… but no… I had a child keep hers. I caught it when she was coming back from a bathroom break! So, I took it from her and then turned it in to the administrators. They called her adult to come get her and then they came into my room to get her. This child walked up to me and said, “I am leaving, I am going to need my phone back!” I told her “Yes, ma’am that is why your adult is here. Just go with Mrs. Rodriguez”. I know of at least four 6th graders that kept their phone. On top of all of that, the day is just exhausting! I became a teacher so that I could talk all day. During testing all I can do is walk around. Walking around watching kids act like they are being tortured is tiring! We were in testing mode until 2:40. Then we went to one class after. Somewhere along the way a parent (or mulitple) complained that after testing their students were losing instruction so we are required to go back to regularly scheduled classes after. I don’t know what parent complained but I would love for them to come to a school after we have been in testing mode for 6 hours and see if the kids still want to learn after.

I think we also suffered some of those consequences on Thursday! I wrote 2 office referrals on Thursday. I know of some bad choices that were made. I had one child that thought she was going to sit in my class and carve a groove into my desk instead of doing science. Then I kid I had last year (that is kinda a little jerk! He is a bully, and he isn’t very good at it so when people get him back, he cries!) ran up to a kid in the hall and punched the crap out of him! When I was like come on dude lets go to the office, he told me “nah it’s after school I am not going to the office with you!” all my flabbers were ghasted I am sure I just stood there looking like an idiot! Haha

So, I took a mental health day today. I had planned on going to Lucile’s and having a grilled cheese and some lobster bisque soup. I was pretty excited about it, but when I got there, they didn’t have the same menu that I had seen online! I was sad! So, I set out to google another place and I ended up in North Richland Hills at a place called I ❤️ mac and cheese and more. It was pretty good! I will for sure being going back! Look at that cheese pull…

Well, I am headed over to have dinner with Amber and her family! I hope that everyone has a great weekend! I didn’t do any schoolwork today! So, I will have a lot to do Sunday, but I think I needed today!
