Teachers don’t just “teach”

Happy Saturday! I hope that everyone had a great week. If I have said it once I have said it a million times, short weeks always seem so much longer! And this was a super “short” week because of the weather! I was so tired I slept until 11 this morning.

I also started classes this week. Well, one class, the other was cancelled (all together) because of the weather. I am so over that phrase! haha This week was exhausting and I was talking about it with a friend and she brought up it is not just the teaching that is exhausting. She said it is all the other things we do. So I started thinking what all did I do this week other than teaching

  1. I swept up my classroom at the start of the day
  2. I helped a handful of kids get logged in to their macbooks (FWISD I need you to know these macbooks are killing those of us in the trenches!)
  3. I helped even more kids reset their password
  4. I recommended a couple good books during DEARI
  5. I unjammed the copy machine after someone left it jammed
  6. I replaced the toner
  7. I investigated a case of the missing journal
  8. I had to investigate the case of the missing assignment
  9. I repaired a different journal
  10. I helped a kid log in to his computer and update the million passwords the district makes the kids have
  11. I reset about 4 million password (ok maybe not 4 million but sure feels that way! that is why it is on the list twice)
  12. I was tech support for a computer not loading Canvas
  13. I was tech support for a computer not accepting a user name
  14. I taped up a backpack
  15. I gave life advice
  16. I gave dating advice
  17. I checked on a kids mental health
  18. I checked on a kids physical health
  19. I had to reattach the arm of a chair
  20. I clarified the kids on Gypsi Rose
  21. I referred an argument
  22. I unjammed a pencil sharpener

I am sure there are other things I did. I asked some of my friends what they did this week and some of them went to the basketball games, gave out hugs, sang happy birthday and served cupcakes, stitched up a backpack, encouraged a kids powerpoint game making abilities, listened to “boy problems”, went full on investigator to find a lost Stanley cup (don’t worry, Garcia did not steal it!) We do all of these things with out thinking. Honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Well, I might go take a nap! haha I hope that everyone has a great weekend. Texas people get ready for another cold one! Teachers what are something you did this week that aren’t “teaching”?
