Happy Thursday! Man I tell you these short weeks always feel like a million years long! I swore today was Friday! I kept asking my friends if they needed eclipses glasses for tomorrow instead of Saturday! But I am pretty excited about the eclipse! I have glasses and I am going to do a mini lesson on it to my students and then I am going to give them some glasses. I am so excited! Ok so back to the neighbors!
Growing up school was important. Looking back it was way more important to my parents than it was to me but I am grateful that they pushed us. I tell my students all the time I was a HORRIBLE student. If there was something to study, I didn’t study. If there was something to read, I didn’t read that, I read a book I wanted to. If there were math problems to solve, I left them unsolved. I am sure you are getting the point. Every 3 weeks when we got either progress reports or report cards there I was with failing, or near failing, grades. My dad would start with the lecture it always had some form of “You are too smart to be getting grades like this!” At the time I didn’t think I was smart, but that is not the point. My dad always used to tell us that we needed to go to college so that we didn’t have to do manual labor. Then to prove his point he would make us do manual labor. I have laid sod, poured concrete, planted flower beds, dug up the flower beds the next season and replanted them, I helped put in a sprinkler system, I pulled weeds, I pruned roses, I helped create a garden, I weeded that garden and harvested the vegetables from that garden. To me yard work was punishment!
So when I bought my house I bought a lawn mower and a weed whacker like I was going to use them! Gav used them that first time that Willie yelled at us. Then I mowed maybe once after that. It was 100% not enjoyable for me! It is not something I enjoyed. It was hot and I got bit by some ants. I think at one point I paid some neighbor kid to mow for me. A bribed a coworker with dinner to come mow one time. The lawn mower just kinda lived in my garage. I started to pay a company to come mow for me. Then they started getting greedy charging me more and doing less so I stopped. The grass was getting high and one day I came home from work and it was just mowed. I was like whoa that was cool! How did that happen? Then sometimes I would be leaving and Mike from across the street would come and be like hey I will mow your yard today! I as like ooooo That is what is happening! I would take him and his wife some enchiladas every now and then as a thank you! Then one day I came home and went in through the garage, I left the garage door open and fell asleep. Then later that day I went to leave and I noticed something looked strange. I was thought whatever I will deal with it later! The next day I was leaving and I told my mom “mom! My lawn mower is missing!?!?!” She asked me “are you sure?” Yes mother! I am sure! it is not something small that I could have misplaced! A few weeks later Mike came over to mow my yard and he told me that his mower died so he grabbed mine. I was like cool dude! It was such a small price to pay for him doing my yard work. One time I was complaining that a tree was making strange noises on the house and I came home from work and he had not only cut it he cut the branches, bundled them and had them on the curb! He moved out after the Pandemic and I again I was sad! A nice lady with her kids moved in there. She’s is nice but I don’t see her doing my yard work so I have been paying for someone to do my lawn. You know the heck if I am going mow my own lawn!
Well It is getting late, I am getting old and I really enjoy my sleep! haha I am going to head to bed! I hope that everyone has a great Friday! If you are local and need glasses for the eclipse let me know I might be able to help ya out!
