Neighbors (pt 1)

Happy Saturday! I hope that everyone had a good week. I have been fighting a sinus infection. I even took off Tuesday! I spent most of today in bed too! I hear the weather is supposed to start to getting cooler! I am so excited because I have more cold weather pink clothes! On top of that I just really enjoy fall! haha

I was sitting in a science training yesterday afternoon. Don’t get me started on these dang flex hours! Anyway there were three high school teachers that were very frustrating. They kept talking over the presenter and basically over anyone that had anything to say that they didn’t agree with. One lady said that teaching isn’t what it used to be the kids can Google all the information and one of the guys turned around and sort of aggraesivly told asked her “what you don’t teach? You just have them Google things!?!” I started to say something and he just kept at it! All I can say is I am glad I don’t work with them daily, or even weekly!

Ok not the point of the blog! So recently I was at Ahsleys house in the evening and I went out to the car and she followed me out there. I appreciate how protective she is sometimes! Yes, Ashley I see what you are doing! haha Anyway while we were out there she started talking to her neighbors. Then another night I was over there I went with her to let another neighbors dog out. She thought she lost one! we wandered around the house for a bit and I don’t know where the dog was. What dog doesn’t come when you say the “t” word! She found The dog the next day.

During this time were were reminiscing about neighbors and we started talking about old neighbors and I was reminded of Willie. Oh! Willie! He lived next door when I moved in. He was a very large and kinda scary black guy. The first interaction I had with him was when I had first moved in. Let me take you back to August of 2009. I had just bought a house, and a lawn mower. That is a whole other story for another day! Gav went out to mow the lawn. Let me preface with in NM we have fences that separate our yards, like all the way from the back yard to the sidewalk. So Gav went out to mow for me with the new lawn mower. He mowed the side of the, the front and the back. later that afternoon when we were hanging the curtains someone came banging on the door like the popo! So I open the door and there is a very scary man standing at my door and he says ‘YOU MOWED MY YARD! YOU ARE GOING TO RUIN IT!” I was super confused and I was like “um… ok?” He said “COME HERE!” So me and Gav follow him to the side of the house and he started shouting “this is my yard, and this is your yard!” Gav just shrugged and was like “ok” and went back inside to finish hanging my curtains. I stayed there and he just kept repeating that Gav mowed it too low and it was going to kill it and from now on stay on my side! I apologized and went on to make sure Gav was hanging my curtains right! haha The next morning we woke up to Willie nailing wooden spikes in along the fence line. It was a learning experience for sure.

Don’t worry Willie’s story doesn’t end there. He turned out to be one of the best neighbors ever. We chatted when we both happen to be outside, he checked on my AC, he fixed the fence when the wind blow it over, he repaired the fence when it was time to replace. One day about 6 months after Willie moved out I came home from work and my driveway was dark for like 3 days in a row. I told my dad “man the lightbulb must be out!” He asked “when we the last time you changed it” I responded “um… I have never changed that bulb!” He just laughed and said “oh Willie!” The best we can gather is that Willie used to change the light bulb when he either did his or noticed it not working as well? The odds of that light bulb lasting 10 years are pretty slim! haha

I was very sad when Willie moved away. I got a couple new neighbors there that aren’t bad neighbors but they just aren’t Willie! I have had to change my own light bulbs, the fence needs to be replaced again! haha Do you have neighbors like Willie? Do you even know your neighbors?
