This is summer break

Hello, happy summer! Most of my teacher friends are on summer break. I’m sorry you admin friends that are not but you’ll get there soon right? It’s technically day 4 if you count weekends. Do we just count the days of the week? if we’re just counting the days of the week I’ve been off for 2 days. Anyway enough counting, I’m helping Pierce through a baby shower next weekend and we spent both of those days getting stuff ready! I introduced her to Home Goods! That might have been a dangerous decision! We have been doing little crafty things to get ready. I never in a million years would have thought that the skill of rolling silverware would have come in handy but it did! Thanks Zeb’s! After the shower I’ll explain more about what we did! With pictures!

One of the things that I have been up to is trying to get a hammock set up in my backyard. So yes I am aware that I can get a hammock stand. But why would I do anything the easy way? Like I told a  few of you either I was going to have a badass hammock situation or I was going to break a tree or bruise my tailbone! So I ventured to walmart. I got a hammock but the cords that came with it weren’t long enough. So I had to go back for more. Then the ones I got weren’t sturdy enough. So I went back for a second set. In case you were counting yes, that is 3 trips to walmart! I put those on and now I am confident that neither the cords nor the tree are going to send me to the ground. The problem I have now is there is too much fabric and the hammock burritos me! I end up with this little gap where I can see the leaves. I am going to figure out this dang hammock thing. I want to lay out there and read! One of our trips to the dollar store I got a jar to use as a mosquito repellent torch thing.  I have another project I have to finish first then I will get back to the hammock stay tuned for the update! (This picture is from inside the hammock burrito! You see that sliver of leaves!?!)

So on to the other project. The house across the street for me is clearly a rented house and I had some new neighbors that moved in at the beginning of the year. Well they moved out this weekend. I got home Saturday afternoon from pool, that’s playing pool not swimming in the pool, and they had a bunch of stuff out on the curb. I walked over and I saw this blue dresser and I was like self: (I always address myself as “self” that way I know who I am talking to!) “self: I want this dresser. I have a spot for it in my entryway. I know where I want it. I don’t want it blue but that’s an easy fix but I want this dresser.” So I’m standing there staring at this dresser and I’m thinking “self, how are you going to get this across the street? I don’t own a dolly.” Included in some of the stuff on the curb was two rolling chairs and two razor scooters. So I’m thinking “Self, how can I use any of these sets of Wheels to take this across the street. Maybe not, that is all I need, break the dresser or worse break me!” I was exhausted so I was like “Self, you know what I’ll deal with this later” at that point I went inside and took a nap. Actually quite frankly I forgot about it. This morning, and by morning I mean noon, when I finally got up and decided to venture out for a meal and to get some school work done, I opened the door and across the street that blue dresser was still sitting there. It’s a sign. I put my stuff in the car and I say “self, you know what I want that dresser I’m going to make it happen”  I go over and I think okay just going to shimmy it across the street it’ll be fine I actually thought once I got it off the curb I could just pull it but no that was not the case. I pick up one side and I turn it till it’s hanging off the curb. And the drawers came rolling out. Then I picked up the other side and also pulled it down off the curb and then walked past where that side was. So that it kind of pivoted and then put that side down and then I pushed the drawers in. So I did that all the way across the street up the curb in front of my house and all the way up the lawn towards my front door. There aren’t many times that I feel I need a man in my life but today was one of them! I kept thinking surely somebody will drive by and I will slowly be shimmying this bright blue dresser in the middle of the street and they will be like oh ma’am let me help you. Or one of the neighbors would have walked out and been like hey hey let me help. Nope! I swear y’all are gonna see a video of me on tiktok or something from my neighbors. They will be laughing at how crazy I must have looked! I got it on the sidewalk in my entryway and then said okay I’m done. I left it there and went about my day to go find food and work on school work. It might have been the fact that I hadn’t been up very long or maybe I’m just an idiot I don’t know but the thought of taking the drawers out of it didn’t occur to me until I was driving away from the house. Not only would it have made it lighter. It would have made it so much easier because I wouldn’t have had to push the dang drawers in every time. Either way it is now sitting right in my entryway.

Once I needed a brain break from school work I decided to go to Lowe’s. The people at the lowest were not very friendly today! Did you know you now have to buy the little paint opener thingies?! I was like never mind I will use a flat head screwdriver! I bought a pastel lime green oops paint. I know what you’re thinking: what does pastel lime mean, well it looks like lime but it’s muted. I actually am kind of in love with it. I got some sandpaper and then of course all of the painting brushes and stuff. So I got home. I sanded it all, I took the drawers out, took all the hardware off of the drawers and I started painting. It started to get dark so I didn’t finish. Right now the dresser is on the sidewalk in my entryway and the drawers are sitting next to it. I’ve put one coat of green on everything. And tomorrow I’ll add another coat of green. I ordered some new drawer knobs. I’ll update you when they come in. This is what we have going on so far. After moving it across the street moving it another 6 feet into my house will be nothing!

I have a busy week coming up. I have lunch with some friends both tomorrow and Tuesday. I have a meeting on Wednesday and a couple training sessions on thursday. Then Friday finishing all the set up for the shower. When people ask what are you going to do this summer and I say oh nothing much, this is what I mean! Haha I hope that everyone has a great week! I will keep y’all updated on my dresser and hammock situations!
