Good evening! How is everyone doing? I hope that everyone is doing well! Today was day 1 of teacher appreciation. We got some pens, highlighters, journals and a squishy ball to throw at kids… I mean to squeeze! haha
I know that I grew up pretty fortunate. My parents loved me, they loved each other, we may have been poor but I never knew because I had all I needed and a lot of what I wanted. I know some of you are thinking ok thanks for rubbing it in! Well I tell you that to tell you that to sort of transition to today’s topic. Trauma! There is a sound going around tiktok where the lady tells her mom something about her childhood trauma and the mom says I don’t remember that! the lady tells her “Maybe because for me it was traumatic for you it was just another Wednesday!” Often when I think of trauma I think of something really horrible happening. My childhood wasn’t one of those. However, I do have a “it was traumatic for me but for you it was just another Wednesday story!”
The conversation started with my mom this weekend. She told me that her and my dad stopped by sonic and she got a grape slush. I told her “I don’t eat artificially flavored grape. It reminds me of that day I got a spanking for a grape slush puppy!” She said “Wait what!?!” Then I jokingly told her about the tiktok and how not just one but two spankings in one day has caused me to cut an entire flavor out of my life!
Ok let me explain. I was probably 4ish? My mom was a stay at home mom at the time and my dad worked. I am not sure what he did but I know he got home before dinner. We lived about 10 minutes or so outside of town. One afternoon we had gone in to town to run errands. One of those errands was the grocery store. We were in the cereal aisle and this little boy that was about my age asked his mom for a cereal and she told him no. Then this kid did the most genius thing I had ever seen in my short little life. He threw a fit. I mean this kid threw himself down he started screaming and yelling that he wanted that cereal! His mom said fine! she grabbed it threw it in the cart, he got up and they continued shopping! It was a game changer! We stopped at the gas station on the way home for milk or a paper or I don’t know, that is not what was important to me! I wanted a grape slush puppy! We walked in the store and I asked for a grape slush puppy and she said no that we were headed home to make dinner but maybe after we would come back with Dad. Perfect now is the time to show off what I learned in the grocery store! So I threw myself on the floor and I started screaming that I wanted a grape slush puppy now! I didn’t want to wait till later! To my confusions I didn’t get a grape slush puppy. What I got was carried out to the car and a spanking in the parking lot. My head was spinning! This did not go how I wanted it to, or how it went for that kid in the grocery store. After dinner I was baffled that they told me no we weren’t going to get a slush puppy because of the way I acted earlier. I don’t know what in my little 4 year old brain made me think throwing another fit would change that. Spoiler alert, it didn’t and it resulted in a second spanking and I got sent to bed! This is why I don’t eat artificially flavored grape!
On a very unrelated but super exciting note I had a jacket made for teaching chair! I mean isn’t it amazing that you can get anything put on a jacket!?! Well, there is a company in town called the Grey Stitch. I had the pleasure of working with the owner back when she was the after school coordinator and had one machine in her laundry room! If you are looking to get something embroidered I highly recommend The Grey Stitch! This isn’t a commercial just a satisfied customer! haha Anyway, I bought a jacket off of Amazon and JoAnna made the vision come to life! Thank you Jo! I love it!

Well on that note I am headed to bed! It is teacher appreciation week. If you have kids have them write a thank you note to one of their teachers! You don’t have to break the bank to show appreciation! If you are a teacher, keep up that amazing work! I promise you are doing more than you realizing! Good night everyone!
