Happy Friday! I hope that everyone survived the week! This has been a ridiculously long week! Maybe this time of year they just always feel that way? We are talking about the space station tomorrow so that will be a pretty chill day! It is pretty cool stuff! Why isn’t all nail polish fast drying? I had to stop at CVS this morning before school and I grabbed some nail polish and I jacked it up all quick! Haha This is the first morning that I have been up and going with enough time to stop! This week I have been running on Mexican time so much more than usual. What is Mexican time you ask? Well it is that cultural stereotype that Mexicans are always late. I work really hard to debunk that stereotype most of the time. Like I show up so early so that people are never waiting on me! Wednesday I was so bad, I knew I was running late but I still stopped at the QT to grab some breakfast! Mornings have been so hard this week! The only time I had the time today is I was scared myself awake at 5 and couldn’t get back to sleep so I went ahead and got up and got ready!
So something that is completely fascinating to me is the belt thing we have going on at school. My students are passing around a belt. The belt looks different most days but the kids are passing it around and wearing it during different class periods. Last week I had a child come to class, Let’s call her T. When class started I walked in from the hall and there were like 3 kids around her helping her put it on. It had some blingy kinda things that were getting caught on her belt loops. By the end of class she had taken it off and handed it to another student. Today I saw one kid we will call him Steven, wearing this red blingy belt before school started. Then 4th period another one of my students, let’s call him Ricardo, walked into class wearing that same belt and he played with it all class period. The problem he was having was the belt was too big and his pants were still falling down. Then the class ended and I saw Steven and Ricardo walking down the hall together. Ricardo takes the communal belt off and hands it back to Steven. He was putting it back on while he was trying to convince the AP to let him go to ISS. He said he skipped the previous class. I have a feeling he was trying to go hang out with one of his buddies out there. But that is a different story. So I don’t know what is going on with this communal belt thing. It is strange! 6th graders are so strange! I asked a 7th and 8th grade teacher if their kids were doing this. They both had similar responses, you know like I was the strange one! Haha Have any other teacher friends noticed a communal accessory?

I have music going constantly. When I am not talking it is on in my room. One of my favorite parts of my day is when a student asks me what the name of the song is. I used to think they were making fun of my music but I think some actually like some of my old music. A lot of them are from when I was in middle or high school! I enjoy it when they ask me to write down the name of the song playing. So after my DJ session I got to thinking of all the things I have done this week that had nothing to do with teaching. I was a jeweler, I fixed a bracelet that had come undone. I gave a hug because someone was having a bad day.I was a nurse, I secretly handed a young lady some pads so she didn’t have to go to the nurse, I handed out three band-aids, I helped problem solve a headache. Kid decided to go to the bathroom before heading to the nurse! I was a lunch lady, fed a hungry kid part of my lunch. I was a seamstress, I guess that is what it would be if I unstuck a backpack zipper. I told the kid that I was a professional because in college I took “unsticking zippers 101”. She didn’t believe me. I don’t understand why? Haha This was a slow week! Right now teaching is exhausting, I am exhausted but in the grand scheme of things I cannot imagine doing anything else!
The worst part about starting school in a few weeks is the anticipation. I am ready to just get started. I am sure things will be fine once I get going. One of things that I never thought I would have to deal with while going back to school as an adult. Having to show proof of vaccinations I got during childhood. Right now my status is “on hold”. I looked up why and they needed proof of the MMR. I called my mom and asked her for a copy of my immunization card. She seemed to think I had it but said she would look where all the other important papers were. Well she found my birth certificate and my drivers ed certificate but no immunization card. After conferring with my nurse friend she told me that I could get my titers tested (I keep wanting to call them tigers! haha) but I might need to get it again anyway based on my numbers so I decided to just get it again. Did you know that Walgreens does Immunizations? Well they do! I got that one and the tetanus shot, I didn’t NEED the tetanus but that isn’t something you want to need and have it expired! Haha I got a little paper from the pharmacist saying that I am all immunized and I will drop that off Tuesday and I should be good to go. I feel old, I can’t get the site to work so that I can upload it. I will just do it old school! Haha
Well It is 7:30 on a Friday night and I think I am going to go to bed! I have a busy day of adulting tomorrow. Don’t judge me but I have an appointment to get my taxes done! I mean I technically am getting them done a week early from when they are due! Haha I hope that all of you have a great weekend!
