an interesting week

Happy Sunday. I know I was trying to blog more often but this week went by so fast! Don’t worry I am working on a few so that those fast weeks they are ready and I just need to post it! Anyway, we went back to school this week. We had quite a few kids out. I have at least 6 kids that I know for sure are out for Covid related absences. We also had some teachers out for the same reason.

I only saw my kids for 3 days this week. The kids started back on Wednesday. Most of the kids were excited to be back. Let’s be honest most of them were not really excited to be back to learning but more for the social aspect of it! They were excited that they got to see their friends and all that stuff. I know that’s why I like going back too. I tried to give them some opportunities on Wednesday to just chat with their classmates. When we have been away from our friends for a couple weeks we just want to talk about life, not speed graphs!

In first period Wednesday I was sitting at my desk kind of, you know, doing my teacher thing. They were working independently at the moment. One of my students raises her hand and I call on her expecting her to have a question about the assignment. She said “Ms how do you feel about mice” I just looked at her and told her “I don’t think I like where this question is going but why do you ask?” She informed me that she saw a mouse go behind the shelf by my desk. I calmly thanked her for the heads up and then emailed the office and was like “yo I have a mouse in my room.” Then I just changed the subject with the students and we moved on. Before break one of my students had given me a snickers bar I had put it in my desk drawer thinking I would eat it another time.  Well right after lunch on wednesday was going to be that other time. I went to pull my Snickers out of my desk and I discovered that the mouse had beat me to it. He ate the whole thing! The good news is that I had a picky mouse. He didn’t eat my M&Ms!

On Thursday we did some shutdown testing. Things didn’t run as smoothly as it usually does. However, we got through it. We had to do NWEA MAP testing. It is a computerized test. We had all the kids go to their testing sites and all kids take the test. Since we were in testing sights in the morning I only saw my afternoon kids on that day.

During testing my little mouse poked his little head out of his hiding place when one of the assistant principals was in there. She nearly screamed and I said oh did you see my mouse? She told me it is either a very small mouse or a very large cockroach! She then found one of his brothers in the hall a little bit later and almost screamed. Apparently I am not the only one that found a mouse in their room after break. Friday some guy came in and put a bait box in my room so hopefully we have dealt with the mouse situation!

So I have a Keurig in my classroom. I’ve never really been a big fan of the K-Cup situation because I don’t like my coffee pot to dictate how much coffee I can have at one time and it has always been my hang up about it. However, I do have one because it is easy in my classroom to deal with. Pop a pod in and coffee! When we leave for breaks we have to unplug everything. Supposedly it saves energy. Really it is just a pain in the butt for the teachers! So I had to unplug my Keurig well. When I plugged it back in this week I couldn’t get it to turn on. The screen had been acting weird before this situation. The screen would just go Gray so I think the screen is dead.. but now that means I can get a new coffee pot.. I’m pretty excited about that. I have been saying that when my Kurig dies I was going to get a carafe-less coffee pot! It is so cold and ugly out today I probably won’t venture out on a quest for one.

So on Friday I may have been wearing a pair of shoes that tend to be very loosely tied. I definitely sound like a sixth grader when I walk through the hall because even though I pick up my foot it kind of does a thump as if ever dragging my feet. Every time I hear myself walking through the hall I can hear my dad “YA Nay! Pick up your feet!” Makes me chuckle and if someone is near me I tell them “OHH I can hear my dad now!” Well I have a soft shaggy rug in my room in front of my board. I was going over to my board to write something and I didn’t pick my foot up high enough to allot for the shoe that does the weird fall off the back of my heel kind of situation and I almost fell over and very audibly in front of my whole class I said “oh shit!” The kids that were paying attention and were listening started laughing. The rest were trying to figure out what was going on. So I’m not sure if they were laughing that I almost fell over or that I very loudly said oh shit but either way they I didn’t fall and we all had a good laugh at my expense and we moved on!

So I wouldn’t say it wasn’t a bad week. It was just a very interesting week. The kids were TIRED on Friday! Next week being a 5 day week is going to be rough! I am ready! I have changed up a little in how I am delivering new content so let’s see! So here are this week’s pictures. I promise I am taking a picture a day and I will figure out some way to share them. Pierce suggested I print them. I could turn one of my bulletin boards in my classroom into my “year in pictures”! Anyway, Hope everyone has a great week!
