Heath or skor

Hello Happy Friday!! I am so glad that we started winter break today! I need the break so much! I had a very sincere conversation with my students today about grades. I have been really worried about allowing them time to make up missing assignments. Usually these missing assignments are just due to a lack of trying. I am not asking for perfection. Actually a great deal of my grades are participation grades. Perhaps what I had with them was not so much a conversation but rather I gave them a speech! I told them that at some point they had to take responsibility for learning. I don’t know what good it will do but I tried!

So as I was walking through the gas station yesterday and I saw a Heath bar and a Skor bar sitting next to each other on the candy shelf. I wondered “self… what’s the difference between them?” So like any scientist I grabbed one of each and headed to the checkout counter. I went back to school to figure it out. I wasn’t trying to be catchy there, I was on my planning period… I literally went back to school! Haha So I got to school and asked Pierce if she knew what the difference was. She thought maybe they were made by different companies like Pepsi and Coke. Under further inspection of the wrappers they were both made by the same company. So I continued the investigation of the wrapper.

So the Skor bar wrapper states that it is a crisp butter toffee. The Heath bar said that it was an English toffee bar. When you open them they look the same from the outside. They are about the same size and the chocolate seems to have been poured over the toffee the same way.  The chocolate was the same. When we cracked them open the Skor bar was a little bit darker than the Heath bar. Then the fun part happened. We tasted them. I am a scientist so I included some friends in the taste testing!  I needed to make sure all the results were legit! So I made Pierce and Washington try it too! We all seemed to agree the Skor bar was a little stickier than the Heath bar, The Heath bar was a little creamier in both taste and texture. The toffee of the skor bar kinda felt like it was old. I am not saying it was old but that it tasted less fresh maybe? They do both have almonds I think after this little experiment the inside of my ear was itchy! It subsided pretty quickly though! So note to self Almonds still on the allergy list!

Did I need to buy 2 candy bars? No! But I was curious and now I have a legit answer and I know that if I am willing to deal with an itchy inner ear that I prefer a Heath bar. Pierce and Washington do too! Does anyone prefer the Skor?

Well this week has been exhausting, mostly at my own doing but not the moral of the story. I am going to bed! I hope that everyone has a great weekend!
