Birthdays and Chickens

Good evening! I hope that everyone is having a fantastic Tuesday! I woke up in a birthday hangover. Not an alcohol hangover… calm down! Let me explain… Yesterday was my birthday.

Usually for my birthday I pick a place and I invite all the people I know!  I like people so it is usually a patio or something where lots of people can just come and chill, eat, laugh, have a beverage and just hang out. With the Rona I didn’t want to do that this year. I have still been very leery of going out and about into the world. My friends asked me for weeks this year what I wanted to do and I just kept telling them “I don’t know?”

I know that birthdays are kinda a big deal for some people. I am not saying it’s not a big deal for me. I mean I like people texting, calling and facebooking me to tell me happy birthday, don’t get me wrong. But other than that birthdays have never been an over the top day of traditions and extravagance. My birthday is in the summer so there wasn’t usually a party with friends or cupcakes at school for my class. And on top of that my birthday usually falls on father’s day weekend so even when I could get a hold of my friends they had fathers day obligations. My parents loved me. Please don’t read that I hated birthdays. My dad used to cut me roses every year, mom made our favorite meal. It’s just a birthday is just another day with a little emphasis on you! I have friends that are all about the birthdays. They have traditions and things that they do every year. They drink margaritas at the same place, or they eat special donuts or cake, I don’t have that. I am not saying that is bad. On my birthday I want my free birthday starbucks coffee, I want to spend time with my friends laughing. If that time includes food and games, all the better!

Yesterday was a pretty good day. It wasn’t the usual see all the people in my life kinda birthday. It was more of a chill day but it was still great nonetheless. I was contacted either by phone or text or facebook by the ones that I love and that love me. I spent some time with some pretty awesome people mostly eating! I added a few more games and a journal to my collection! I got a new piercing in my ear. Overall it was a pretty good day!

So what I mean by I woke up with a birthday hangover is I mean i woke up with my heart so full! I am so grateful for all the people that took the time to wish me a happy birthday. Grateful for all the people in my life. I like to spend time with people and during this coronacation it has been very hard to be at home without people. I want all of you to know, I appreciate all of you and I am grateful that all of you are in my life! Happy birthday to the rest of my June birthday people!

I am just going to leave you with a quick story because it made me laugh. I was on the phone with a friend this afternoon and someone rang the doorbell. When I got there it was the kid from next door. He’s about 15ish. He tells me “hi, um, ma’am a couple of my chickens flew into your backyard. Is it ok if I go back there to get them?” my first thought was “maam!?!?! Am I the old lady neighbor!?!?” Then my next thought was “I thought chickens couldn’t fly. I mean too bad the chickens in the movie chicken run didn’t know they could fly!!!” and my third thought was “how do I get eggs out of this situation?” I just looked at him and asked him to make sure he closed the gate when he left. But now I am left with so many more questions. Like how long have they lived back there? How many do they have? How do I get eggs from these chickens? Do I want eggs from these chickens? Would I eat them? When was the last time I bought eggs? Do people that have chickens name them? Would it have been more or less weird if he had said “Monica and Stacy flew into your backyard can I go get them?”

For now I leave you with all these unanswered questions! I hope that everyone has a great week! Stay healthy, safe and cool!
