Orange Chicken?

Happy Sunday!! How was your week? Mine was… exhausting! This time of year, is always so existing! There is so much going on. The kids are going crazy and there is a lot of activities we are trying to get in before the end of the year.

Let’s see, Monday, we took a group of kids to main event. It was their prize for selling 4 boxes or more of chocolate during our school fund raiser. The kids got to bowl, play laser tag and pool all they wanted in the 5 or so hours we were there. Kim and I went with the students. We played a little pool but mostly just wandered around and hung out. It was still exhausting! Haha Thursday I did a project with my students. We used toilet paper to build a visual of how far Pluto is. The had to count out 200 squares of toilet paper. The sun is one end and the Pluto would be at 200. Earth is about 3 squares. It was hectic. The adults on my floor were very understanding of my students being EVERYWHERE! I do mean EVERYWHERE! There were kids up and down the hall and up and down the stairs. It was CRAZY! Friday, we took over 300 students bowling. I think the kids had a great time. It was an AR reward party. For those of you not familiar with AR they read books in their reading level than they take tests on them. They get points based on the level and size of the book. If they reach their goals for 2 6 weeks in a row, we have incentive parties. This time we took them bowling.

Yesterday was the 9th annual problem solving competition. I love this competition! I love taking all the pictures for this event! The kids always have so much fun! They play 5 different competitions, tangrams, cross math, can’t stop, 24 and problem solving. the kids always have so much fun. This year Rosemont 6 got 3rd place in tangrams. They did such a great job! Perhaps next year we will place in more activities!

So, yesterday evening Jan invited me over to her house for dinner. I was like ok sure! Why not? She said she was making something healthy. A new recipe from a healthy cook book. I had no problem with that. I mean I have no problem eating healthy. I got to her house and we ventured to target to get everything she needed for this new recipe. She got chicken, vegetables, oranges, chi tea, bottled water, Ziploc bags and a patio chair. I was thinking “self…” that’s how I know I am talking to myself. I thought “self… surely she doesn’t need all of this for dinner, but I get it… I mean if you are already here why not get a few things you need? I should grab some paper towels!” so we got home and she wouldn’t let me help her with anything. She was cutting and steaming and cutting some more. She cooked the chicken in the chi tea. She steamed the broccoli and made the house smell like broccoli fart! Haha you know when you cook broccoli it makes the entire house smell like fart! She put the broccoli in with the chi chicken and then she put in some cut up oranges. She then stirred some spices and stuff. So, when she said it was dinner time we all looked at our bowls very confused. The oranges kind of fell apart and made it very stringy. Also, very mushy. The taste wasn’t all bad, I mean the chi chicken was actually delicious. I may actually try cooking some chicken like that! However, The texture of the oranges that fell apart and got soggy and stringy was… not good! We were all trying to help the situation, my suggestion was adding cheese… they didn’t have cheese. I thought “self… who doesn’t have cheese in their fridge!??!” Savannah and I were pushing food around the bowl picking out the chicken. I picked out the large pieces of broccoli. Then Jan broke the awkwardness by insuring all of us that she didn’t think it was good either. Then she said “let’s go to canes and get some dinner”. We went from totally healthy to deep fried chicken! Haha It wasn’t Jan’s fault. I think the recipe was flawed. It made me think of that episode of friends where Rachel makes the dessert for thanksgiving and the pages get stuck together and she makes a truffle and a shepherd’s pie! I think that this recipe would be good with some sort of squash instead of the oranges. Savannahs suggestion was from now on anytime a recipe suggests fruit vegetables and meat… Jan stays away! Haha When we walked back in the door from Cane’s the hose smelled like orange broccoli fart! haha we tried to assure Jan that her dinner had good points… but I think it lost all credibility when none of us could tell her that with a straight face! This morning when I asked Jan what the dish was called she said “crap” haha the food wasn’t good, the laughs and the story was great! Always a good time with the Smith women!

Well I should get to bed if I am going to make it through this week! 9 more kids with students! Not that anyone is counting! Haha y’all have a great night and a great week!
